Crozet Arts offers a wide range of music classes—from cello, flute, guitar, and handbells to joyful Music Together experiences for children—welcoming musicians at every age and stage. Making music in community builds listening, confidence, and connection, creating shared moments of learning, expression, and belonging that resonate far beyond the classroom.
Suzuki Cello
At Crozet Arts
Suzuki cello classes at Crozet Arts are led by Resident Artist Dr. Beth Cantrell, an internationally respected cellist and Suzuki educator with over 30 years of teaching experience.
A former Chair of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and a Registered Teacher Trainer, Dr. Cantrell brings Suzuki’s belief that every child can learn to life through joyful, rigorous instruction rooted in listening, community, and care.
With an active performance career and a long-standing private studio at Crozet Arts,

Music Together
At Crozet Arts
Led by early childhood educators David Berzonsky & Estela Knott, Blue Ridge Music Together offers fun-filled, research based, non-performance-oriented, mixed-aged music classes for families with children 0-5 years of age and their loving adults.
Make music an exciting part of your child’s life! Explore musical play, child-friendly instruments, songbooks, and CDs that you use at home. Regardless of your own music ability, you will contribute to your child’s music learning—and form everlasting bonds.

From intensive workshops to one-on-one lessons, our music instruction programs offer a variety of options for students to learn technique, music theory, and musicianship in a friendly, encouraging setting. Our offerings help players build skills and experience the joy of making music.
Music classes and lessons run in individualized session lengths—usually 4 to 7 weeks long. If you're looking to start or join mid-session (or don't see a registration option that works for you) get in touch!
Guitar + Ukulele
with Daniel McCarthy
Ages 7 to Adult
(younger students with instructor permission)
Lessons are offered in 6 or 7 week sessions, available in 20- or 30-minute formats, offered either privately or in small groups for personalized attention and a fun, supportive learning environment.
About the Instructor
Daniel McCarthy is an internationally performing rock, Americana, classical, and jazz guitarist with advanced degrees in music from James Madison University and Appalachian State University. He has appeared as a featured soloist at major festivals including Montreux Jazz, North Sea Jazz, MerleFest, and L’Off Jazz in Montreal. Daniel has taught guitar and music for 25 years, including as an Adjunct Professor at James Madison University, Piedmont Virginia Community College, and Blue Ridge Community College, where he taught classical/jazz guitar, music theory, and music history. He has also served as a judge at international classical guitar competitions. His work includes teaching, composing, arranging, and commissioned projects for multiple instruments. Outside of music, Daniel is a paralegal and has recently worked at the Charlottesville City Attorney's Office and at the Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School, where he assisted in developing course curriculum for training Army paralegals.
Handbell + Hand Chime
with Donald Dollins
Middle School to Adult
Participants learn ringing techniques, rhythm, and ensemble skills. Classes run in 4 week sessions and require no prior experience—just enthusiasm and a love of music.
About the Instructor
Donald Dollins is the director of the Crozet Community Handbell Choir. He has played handbells for over 50 years and has directed many handbell groups of all ages. A long-time member of the Stonewall Brigade Band, he is an active instrumentalist. Donald is known for his easy going manner and great sense of humor.
Flute
with Elizabeth Brightbill
First Grade to Adult
From beginners to experienced flautists, Elizabeth offers various opportunities to discover or explore in more depth the joy of playing the flute. She offers private lessons from her home and group classes at Crozet Arts focused on honing skills for all experience levels.
About the Instructor
Elizabeth Brightbill is an award-winning flutist currently performing in the Crozet-based duo Terra Voce. Prior to moving to Crozet, she held the position of Principal Flute with the Tulsa Philharmonic and Opera orchestras for ten years. She holds the D.M. degree from Indiana University. Elizabeth currently teaches at Longwood University and in her home studio in Crozet.
